February 2021 Reading Update

Image
Reading Update! I finished A Separate Peace in time for the book to go back to my daughter's English teacher. Overall, kind of meh about that book. As was the case for my daughter and others in her class the first half of the book is great, the second half I just didn't really care about. But, I'm glad I read this book. It's listed on The Great American Read that aired on PBS a few years back and I have wanted to read most of the books on that list. So, check another one of those off.  Still working on The Starless Sea. I checked out a hard copy from the library that needs to be back in about a week and I've run out of renews. Hopefully I can finish it up. On a whim I checked out Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism after seeing a YouTube interview he did. I was starting to drastically cut down on my social media usage and this book helped me put a lot of things into perspective. I have 100 pages left to read but it needed to go back to the library. 2021 Reading Goals

2020 was a very 'bad' reading year for me.  After both of my kids entered their preteen years I decided I needed to get back into reading more. I've always loved books, a love that came from my mom. I have distinct memories of my mom sitting at the foot of her bed reading. I had to pass my parents room when coming out of my room and these memories are from all times of the year, all times of the day. You never knew when you'd find mom taking a moment to read a little in her room. My guess is that it was a form of meditation for her. Moving on....when I found the Goodreads yearly reading challenge in 2016 I figured that would be a good way to help make a priority of reading, by setting an arbitrary goal for myself. It seemed to work. I met my goal every year and every year I read more books than the last. Until 2020. I'm not sure why. I did spend more time crocheting than normal, making scarf and ear warmer sets for my husband's coworkers for Christmas gifts. But

Crochet Projects - From Instagram

First step to catalogue my crochet projects is to grab everything from Instagram. These projects took place in late 2019 through mid 2020. In October and November 2019 I made a couple shawls for myself.  On the hanger is a V stitch triangle shawl. I used the Zinna Flower shawl pattern from Fiber Flux. I added a button in both corners, I prefer to wear triangle shawls secured with a button so I don't have to worry about them shifting and slipping throughout the day. The yarn i s Yarn Bee's Dazzling in the colorway Berry Bliss.  Very simple to make, here is a link to the written pattern and the video tutorial. https://www.fiberfluxblog.com/2014/04/free-crochet-patternzinnia-flower-shawl.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE7agRONOw8&t=329s Laid out on the table is a rectangle shawl with a button closure. I used the Copper Skies Button Wrap pattern from Fiber Flux. The yarn is Red Heart's Hygge yarn in the colorway Plum Candy. This yarn was so nice to work with, it's
